I was born and raised in a suburb just outside of Phoenix, Arizona. Although the desert has always been my home, my dad instilled a deep love and need for travel. We grew up going on road trips every school break, and when my dad took us to Europe for the first time, it was game over. I was completely hooked.
I made it my goal to study abroad in college, and my junior year I left to live in Prague in the Czech Republic for 4 months. After coming home, I was desperate to move back to Europe for a longer time.
I found out about the NALCAP program, which would allow me to live and work as an English teacher in Spain. In October of 2021, I moved to Madrid, Spain and as much as I love it, it has been one of the most challenging endeavors I’ve ever taken on. There is so much travel content out there that minimizes, glosses over, and downplays the realities of traveling, moving, and living abroad.
I had so many questions and made so many mistakes in the process of moving abroad, and most of my trips are chaotic and anything but luxurious. I hope that by writing about the things I wish I knew before moving, people that are embarking on similar journeys can get some real, lived advice. I want to write about my travels as they really happen- which I can guarantee are mostly chaotic, rarely luxurious, but always rewarding.
